WEEK #2: IMAGINARY AND DERIVATIVE ANIMALS

Inspired by Carla Sondheim’s  Doing More with your Gelli®Plate  www.carlasondheim.com

Imaginary Animal: Pick an object from my “blob” box and make a contour line drawing. You may look at the object, make a “blind” contour line drawing, or use your non dominant hand to draw with a marker on 100 lb Bristol or Fabriano 140 lb. hot press watercolor paper. Make drawings to fit your size gelatin plate.

Derivative Animal: repeat the same process using a reference photo.

Cut out the drawings (stencils) keeping the positive and negative parts.

Register your printing paper.

Printing: High flow and fluid acrylic paints are semi transparent and have a broken texture. Or use Matte Medium and a drop of acrylic paint as a transparent/glazing layer.

Begin each sequence with one solid layer of color. Offset additional layers.

Ghost printing and adding eyes or other details.

Finishing your prints with pencil shading, acrylic pens, colored pencils, collage, and any thing else you can think of!!!!

P.S. Twinky Twooter is the title of my husband Mike’s imaginary animal!
